SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – In a video posted on You Tube, The Saugatuck Township Fire District has announced that they will be awarded a check from AAA of Michigan to help pay for upgrades to the department.
AAA will award the fire department $9,051 to go towards a new life-saving equipment. The money comes from the AAA Traffic Safety Grant Program.
In the video Fire Chief Greg Janik says they have seen a 67% increase in traffic crashed and replacing the department’s 25-year-old extrication tool will allow for them to reach crash victims faster.
The new equipment is battery operated and quieter says Janik. It’s called an Genesis Edraulic extrication tool.
“So you have hoses on the old style power unit that have to be coupled together. You have a loud motor that makes a lot of noise and when you have patient care, that has an impact with the older tyoe tools. The battery operated tools they are very quiet. Eveyone’s voice is calm and you can talk and converse and communicate with the other person without all these loud noises.”
A check presentation ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11 at Saugatuck Township Fire District on Blue Star Highway.
