HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Just in time for Arbor Day at the last Friday of this month, the city of Holland was named a 2016 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to preserving urban forests.
Holland met Tree City USA’s requirements by having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of a least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Dan Lambe, President of the Arbor Day Foundation, says that recognition brings residents together and creates a sense of community pride, whether it’s through volunteer engagement or public education.
Arbor Day is April 28th this year and you can celebrate the day in Holland by joining Herrick District Library at their free seedling giveaway event from 9am-4pm. More Arbor Day events will be announced soon.
