HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Crayola has spilled the beans on what crayon will be retired ahead of their Friday announcement from Times Square on National Crayon Day.
A leak on Twitter spread the news quickly that the Dandelion crayon will be retired. An email from a Crayola marketing executive confirmed the news.
WHTC reached out to Holland artist Carolyn Stich of the Carolyn Stich Studio in Holland. The studio hosts coloring parties and Stitch was onto the coloring craze before it became a hit nationwide.
Stich who was Tulip Time’s poster winner in 2015, says she uses the colors lime-green and yellow the most. She said she’d like to see the gray crayon retire before the news was revealed that it’s the Dandelion crayon that will no longer be in the 24-count box of crayons.
” I would like to see more of a aqua color. A lot of girls use that color when coloring and painting.”
The Carolyn Stich Studio is open during spring break with all sorts of activities like painting a plate. You can make a reservation to paint on canvas. Coloring is always available at the studio too. The studio is located at 208 College Avenue in downtown Holland.
Crayola sells a variety of different box sizes, the most common of which contain either eight, 16, 24, 48, 64, 96 or 120 crayons. The company has offered boxes of as many as 200 crayons. It also offers specialty crayons, such as scented and oversized crayons.
