HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – It won’t be an “election” as normal for voters in the Holland Public School district in about six weeks.
Two ballot issues will face them on May 2nd. The first is the 18-mill Non-Homestead Property Renewal proposal that the district will seek approval of for three years instead of one. The other is a 10-year Sinking Fund request of four tenths of a mill for one year and one and a quarter mills for the remaining nine years. District officials say that this will help fund major building repairs, large-scale infrastructure renovations and technology upgrades, and claim that, “when this rate is combined with the scheduled reduction in the district’s debt service millage, it works out to a lower overall tax levy for district property owners over the 2017-26 time frame.”
The district will hold five 45-minute information meetings on the two ballot proposals at the HPS Administration Board and Training Room on the Holland High Campus off of West 24th Street, beginning this Wednesday evening at 7 PM. More information is on the district’s website.
The West Ottawa, Zeeland and Fennville school districts in the immediate Lakeshore area are also seeking renewal of the 18-mill non-homestead tax on May 2nd, with Zeeland, Saugatuck and Manilus townships asking voters on that election day to renew millages for road maintenance and fire services.
