LANSING, MI (WHTC) – There is little change from a year ago in the graduation and dropout rates in Michigan’s high schools.
The Michigan Center for Educational Performance and Information’s annual report shows a 79-percent graduation rate, with the dropout rate down two-tenths of a percent to eight-point-91-percent for the 2015-16 school year.
Eight of the state’s ten largest school districts recorded improvements in graduation rates. Both the dropout and graduation rates have improved over the past four years.
State Superintendent Brian Whiston says he is encouraged by this year’s data.
“As we move forward to make Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years, we need to provide each student an education plan that steers them toward success. If that takes four years to graduate, or five years in an Early/Middle College setting, or even six years, the important thing is that students get the education and skills they need to be successful.”
Locally in West Ottawa Schools the graduation rate is at 92.32%. Holland Public Schools show a 71.60% graduation rate and Zeeland Schools with a 91.16% graduation rate.
