SPRING LAKE TWP, MI (WHTC) – A Spring Lake school bus transporting students to school Wednesday, March 22, crashed into another vehicle in Spring Lake Township.
Deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene at 8:25 a.m. on 148th Avenue at the intersection of Leonard Street in Spring Lake Township. Sgt. Bob Ruster says that 34-year-old Shannon Robson of Spring Lake was transporting the students at the time of the crash. Robson was stopped at the intersection facing south and attempted an eastbound turn onto Leonard Street. She failed to see Nicole Pierre-Dowling’s 2016 Sante Fe Hyundai that was northbound.
10 students received minor injuries with one 11-year-old female student complaining of arm pain. She was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital and treated and released. The other nine students were looked at by medics and released at the scene.
Robson told authorities that the bright sunlight was a factor in the crash and was cited for failing to yield right of way. Neither Robson or Pierre-Dowling were injured in the crash which remains under investigation.
