HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Gear up for St. Patty’s Day on Friday with these fun events in the Holland area!
3/12 Sunday: Maple Sugar Time at the Historic Van Raalte Farm- The maple sap will be flowing and the sugar shack steaming for this fun and tasteful spring ritual. Participants will journey down a trail in the sugar bush and may tap a tree or gather sap and then see how the Native Americans made sugar. End your walk at the sugar house to see the nature center’s evaporator making syrup – steaming away in the forest. In the old barn, we will be serving maple sodas, maple floats and sundaes made with Hudsonville ice cream and our own maple syrup topping. Maple candy and syrup will be for sale too. 1076 E. 16th St., Holland; 12 to 3; $1 per person.
3/13 Monday: Hope College Knickerbocker Film Series – I, Daniel Blake- Daniel Blake is a 59-year-old joiner living in Newcastle, a city in North East England. Daniel has had a heart attack at work. His recovery is incomplete and his cardiologist is concerned that Daniel’s heart might begin to beat abnormally, putting him at risk of developing a life-threatening arrhythmia. 3/14 Tuesday: Bookstore Sale at Maas Center of Hope College- Giant Bookstore SALE! T-shirts, hoodies, long sleeve tees, jackets, youth clothing, gift items all at AMAZING prices! Hosted by Hope-Geneva Bookstore. 264 Columbia Ave Holland; 11 AM – 4 PM.
3/15 Wednesday: Get ready to sweat your Shamrock off! Dress up in your favorite green Irish gear and join CrossFit Soaring Ledge and Macatawa Ale Company for our St. Patty’s Day Edition of our Craft Beer, WOD & 3k Run! For $10, you can join the community WOD, and then do a short 3k run. After the run, enjoy a refreshing beer at our neighbors Mac Ale. Do all three events, or just come and hang out with some awesome people. Must be 21+ to drink beer. 3/16 Thursday: Exhibit: For the Future Peace: WWII and Holland on the Homefront at the Holland Museum- Seventy-five years ago, Pearl Harbor was bombed and the United States formally entered World War II. Join the Museum as we explore the personal stories of local people who assisted in the war effort, including soldiers who fought abroad, women who stepped in to work and children who helped in any way they could. 31 W. 10th St., Holland; 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; $7.00 adults; $6.00 seniors; $4.00 students; children 5 and under free; members free.
3/17 Friday: St Patrick’s Day Dinner And Dance at VFW Post 2144-Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner ($8) 4:30-6pm. Also serving Fish Dinner. Ambush Band Performing 7-11pm. Games, Raffles & Door Prizes. Open to the Public. Drink Specials including Green Beer! 175 W 8th St, Holland; 4:30 PM – 11 PM.
3/18 Saturday: St Patrick’s Day Parade in Downtown Holland- The community of Holland, well known for its Dutch ancestry, goes Irish for the seventh year in a row as organizers commemorate St. Patrick with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Downtown Holland! The event will kick off with a spectacular St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 12:00 pm. The parade begins at the Eight Street Marketplace and travels east up Eighth Street until it reaches the Curragh Irish Pub and New Holland Brewing Company Restaurant and Pub (on the corner on Eighth Street and College Avenue). Irish dancers, bagpipers, and kilt-wearers are just a few of the parade highlights! Families and individuals wearing green are invited to carry Irish flags in the parade (a limited number of flags will be available at no charge). 78 East 8th Street, Holland; 12pm; Free
