HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Greater Ottawa County United Way is challenging business owners with their $100 x 100 business challenge. Your gift of $100 helps Ottawa County residents improve educational success, health and household financial stability with their community partners .
Each year at the end of January, the Lakeshore Housing Alliance (LHA), a program of Greater Ottawa County United Way, conducts a census of persons experiencing homelessness in Ottawa County. The information gathered helps to identify gaps in services and allows housing service providers to make determinations about the program improvement and where to target new resources.
Lyn Raymond from United Way is the Director of Lakeshore Housing Alliance says there are any number of reasons that people become homeless.
“People who are victims of domestic violence are more likely to become homeless. There is also a large portion of folks who have some kind of disability who become homeless and that would include substance abuse. Another tool in our toolbox is permanant support of housing that is designed for someone who has a disibility and needs some extra support.”
