ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – A Zeeland teenager has a health crisis that for most of us is just an annoyance: hiccups.
Seventeen-year-old Karley Reidzans has been hiccuping for two years and Doctors at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital have yet to pinpoint the problem. She says she thought it was funny when it first started but then after a month or so her Mother too her to the Doctor.
Dr. Daniel Fain, a pediatric neurologist at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, is perplexed by Karley’s hiccup problem.
“It seems to be some sort of a brain misfire is all we can say right now. It may be something about the way her body is perceiving certain stimuli. It may be the way her body is growing. We don’t know for sure exactly.”
Dr. Fain says he’s never seen a case like this and is not sure if she’ll grow out of it.
