GRANDVILLE, MI (WHTC) – Demonstrators are coming out in full force in Ottawa County which is the most conservative county in Michigan.
A demonstration was held outside the Grandville office of Congressman Bill Huizenga’s office. Several dozens protested the Zeeland lawmaker’s support for President Trump’s executive order on immigration.
“There is a strong support throughout the country and throughout the world for supporting refugees.” said John Olsen of Hamilton who was at the demonstration.
Huizenga’s communications director Brian Patrick says it’s important for people in the Second District to know they will hear everyone’s views, regardless if they agree with the congressman or not.
“We had a respectful conversation in which we exchanged viewpoints with many constituents who agree and do not agree with Congressman Huizenga.”
Huizenga joined WHTC Morning News Thursday morning and discussed the upcoming demonstration and his views on immigration.
“At some point or another, we have to decide as a country are we going to move forward and govern? They are great at leading a protest. I’m trying to lead a country.”
An organization called Indivisible West Michigan is hosting a rally on Friday, February 3, at Huizenga’s office in Grandville according to their Facebook page.
