HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – Reaching an ambitious goal for the Greater Ottawa County United Way is apparently in sight with about six weeks to go.
Agency officials announced on Monday that the annual campaign has crossed the three-quarters mark towards the goal of raising 2.5 million dollars. Various incentives have helped in garnering nearly 1.9 million thus far, including a 100-dollar-by-100 small business challenge, matching donation challenges and more. Last year, the Greater Ottawa County United Way fell short of its first 2.5 million-dollar fundraising attempt by around 260 thousand dollars.
Agency President Patrick Moran says that the scope of the United Way’s efforts is extensive. “One out of every four people in our community are served by United Way and their partner programs,” he explained. “So when you walking down the street, or you’re in the mall, or you’re in the grocery store, think about that – one out of every four people that you walk by are likely to have been helped because you gave or you advocated or you volunteered.”
This annual effort ends on March 23rd.
