WASHINGTON, DC (WHTC) – U.S. Education Secretary nominee Betsy DeVos will not have to face a second confirmation hearing
Although Democrats had requested another session, Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander has denied it.
State Rep. Daniela Garcia is also Vice Chair of the committee on Education and says DeVos has always been focused on parents being able to choose and students being able to succeed. Garcia believes the Holland native will be confirmed.
“When you go back and look at all these confirmation hearings, the opposite party always has an issue with the policies or the individuals who are being nominated. Her opponents are concerned about her dismantling public education. I don’t think she is about that at all. She’s about making sure their are options for parents, all types of options for parents. In my district I have families who homeschool, who send their students to private and public schools and immersion programs.”
In a statement, Charirman Alexander noted DeVos had met with each committee member and had been grilled for 90 minutes longer than either of former President Obama’s nominees for education secretary.
