HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Fundraising efforts to help pay for the Civic Center renovation are on the table.
At Wednesday’s city council meeting, several fundraising events are in the books. The first is a concert at the Civic Center on February 18 which will be open to all ages and a cash bar will be available to those 21 and over. In 2016 the City of Holland adopted an amended Liquor Policy and the sale and consumption of alcohol on public property. Tickets are on sale at the Parks and Recreation offices at 429 East 24th Street. $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
On February 25th at 2 p.m. the community will have the opportunity to to share memories and a recorded history lesson on the Civic Center will be given. The Holland Sentinel says a donation bucket will be passed around at the event.
Coming up in March, Maple Palooza will take place at Degraaf Nature Center and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Civic Center. The event is from 11-3 p.m. An Irish band, maple craft beer and free kids events will be featured.
As for when renovation work will begin, a number two pencil with an eraser may be needed in formulating a time frame. “Asbestos removal begins in March,” DeBoer said in an appearance on “WHTC Morning News.” “That’s going to be a bit of an extensive job because this isn’t a brand new building. The last I heard is the shovels hit the ground (this) July, and then the ribbon-cutting is scheduled in September of 2018.”
