HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The January thaw has called for the Ottawa County Road Commission to activate Spring weight restrictions on all county roads.
As of 6 a.m. Thursday, January 19, the restrictions are in effect and will be enforced. Sometimes called “frost laws”, seasonal weight restrictions are written into law to protect Michigan’s local roads from excess weight during periods when the roads are most vuneralbe to damage. During the weight restriction period, trucks traveling on posted/restricted roads must reduce speeds to 35 mph and carry lighter loads.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-50’s by Saturday with winter weather returning by Wednesday next week.
The Ottawa County Road Commission has implemented a 24- hour-a-day recorded answering system for public use to check the status of restrictions. 616-842-0086 or 800-394-0290.
