HOPKINS TWP., MI (WHTC) – A two-story residence in northeastern Allegan County went up in flames in a blaze in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday.
Crews from several departments were dispatched to the house off of 18th Street near US-131 around 5:30 AM, and despite temperatures well below freezing, they were able to contain the flames to the structure. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not the home was occupied at the time, but there were no injuries reported among first responders.
The residence wasn’t hooked up to any utility-provided electricity, with a generator and kerosene heater used for power and warmth. Investigators say that the fire started in an attachment to the second floor, but didn’t make an immediate determination as to a cause of the blaze.
