GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – It looks as if the Lakeshore may have dodged a winter storm bullet.
A winter weather advisory was cancelled an hour ahead of the scheduled 10 AM expiration time for Allegan and Ottawa counties, as well as seven others in West Michigan. Fears of up to six inches of snow with blowing and drifting, for the most part, failed to materialize as most places only saw a dusting of snow through the overnight hours.
Main roads were salted, while secondary roads were slippery but not snow-covered. The only crash of consequence reported to local dispatchers occurred late on Thursday morning, about three hours before the advisory went into effect. A three-vehicle pileup near the Lake Michigan Drive entrance to Grand Valley State University’s Allendale campus hospitalized a Hastings man with non-life threatening injuries, but deputies say that the wreck was due more to a broken front suspension in a pickup truck than due to weather conditions.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids still warn that lake effect snow could still be felt in the region this morning before slowing diminishing, with a warm up over the weekend predicted.
