HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – As the Christmas season comes to a close, there are some who think that Holland will now just close up shop until the Tulip Time festival.
Not so fast, says Sally Laukitis of the Holland Area Visitors Bureau, who is looking at how she and other local tourism officials can better market what she calls the “shoulder season.” “Summers are pretty much taking care of themselves,” she said on “WHTC Morning News” this week, “but we’re looking for “shoulder season’ events. I had a brief conversation with Jack Huizenga from the (Holland Community) Aquatic Center and they are bringing in some great swimming events this year, so Holland is really, really booming.”
Laukitis points to a “vibrant downtown which is at 100 percent occupancy for retail” and the more than doubling of available hotel rooms in the area as signs that the Tulip City has more than just its annual signature event as an attraction.
