HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – It’s going to cost a bit more to make a new connection to Windmill Island.
During tonight’s meeting, the Holland City Council will be asked by City Manager Ryan Cotton to adopt a joint resolution with neighboring Holland Township on a higher price tag for building a non-motorized pathway to the home of the DeZwaan Windmill. He said that the bridge spanning the Macatawa River to Holland’s North Side could cost an additional 100 thousand dollars to build due to “some loose sandy soils” near where the northern bridge abutment would be located, so that is necessitating a slightly longer span. Cotton said that the overall cost estimate is 159 grand more than was last reported in October due to this and other factors.
The resolution is part of a “resolution of commitment” by the two local government entities needed to secure a state Department of Transportation grant of nearly 825 thousand dollars for the three million-dollar project. There has been no mention in recent meeting agendas that the Holland Township board has considered this change in the proposed project.
Cotton hopes to have the project put forward for bidding next month.
