GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – Round two of what appears to be a protracted match against the forces of Winter is underway along the Lakeshore.
A 48-hour Winter Weather Advisory took effect at 7 AM this morning for Allegan & Ottawa counties, with National Weather Service forecasters predicting four to seven inches of snow before 7 AM on Sunday. The flakes may fall more intensely from late today through tomorrow, leading to poor visibility and slick roads at a moment’s notice.
In Holland, the plows will be trying to keep up on clearing off the roadways, and Mayor Nancy DeBoer says that things could be worse. During an appearance on “WHTC Morning News” today, she said, “Having driven to Florida through those southern states, when they have two inches of snow, everybody is sliding off of the mountains, I say to myself, ‘We have a lot to be thankful for with the kind of crews that we have, the salt and chemicals and everything that we have to make the roads as safe and passable as possible.’”
Areas north of the Lakeshore are expecting higher snowfall amounts, while the possibility of freezing rain and drizzle exists south of the general Holland area.
