HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Dutch holiday tradition is not really Dutch.
So says Sally Laukitis as the Executive Director of the Holland Area Visitors Bureau talked about the return of Sinterklaas to the Tulip City tonight. “He’s actually a Spanish Moor,” she explained in her weekly appearance on “WHTC Morning News” yesterday. “He arrives by ship in the Netherlands, and we’ve thought about how we can make him arrive by water at Kollen Park. We do have him arrive on his white horse, which is very traditional in the Netherlands, and he’s accompanied by his Peet helpers, which are typically high school kids. It’s just a great, new tradition.”
The annual Sinterklaas Eve Procession begins at 7 PM at the 8th Street Marketplace, proceeds east through downtown Holland to a tree lighting ceremony at Centennial Park. More information is available here.
