HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The outdated sound system in Centennial Park will now be replaced due to a grant Tulip Time has received from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA).
The $22,500 grant was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and is one of 558 applications to compete for 2017 fiscal year funding with the Council.
With over 500,000 visitors during the Tulip Time Festival, the number one complaint from visitors has been the current sound system at Centennial Park. The sound system that broadcasts the music for Dutch Dance was installed in the 1980’s and over the last 30 years has deteriorated says officials with Tulip Time. Playback is distorted and it’s hard to hear the announcements that are made prior to performances. With the new sound system, Tulip Time says it will also open up the opportunity for use by other civic and private group for things such as holiday events and summer activities says Executive Director Gwen Auwerda
The MCACA grant is a match dollar for dollar from funds contributed from Tulip Time and a community wide fundraising campaign. Contributions up to $22,500 will be matched by MCACA, with an overall project goal of $55,000. To learn more and to donate click here
