HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A house fire kept Holland Public Safety crews busy late on Thursday morning.
According to Public Safety Captain of Fire Operations Chris Tinney, firefighters were dispatched to a single-level duplex in the 400 block of West 31st Street around 10:45 AM on a report of visible smoke and fire coming from the overhead garage doors. It didn’t take long for crews to bring the blaze under control.
There were residents inside of one of the units at the time and were alerted by a neighbor that smoke detectors were sounding inside of the structure. They were able to escape, although one unnamed woman was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. No other residents or first responders were injured.
No damage estimate was initially made, and while the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Tinney said that early indication suggest that the fire may have been accidental in nature.
