HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Over 56 performers from Holland Public Schools will transform the stage to the rooftops of London for the award winning Holland High School Theatre’s production of Mary Poppins.
The cast ranges from 3rd grade all the way to the staff with over 168 unique costumes, dozens of wigs, huge sets and Mary Poppins will even fly.
Senior Anna Ryzenga is taking on the role of Mary Poppins and she says the character is a bit more stern in the musical theater production as opposed to the Disney film. ” It’s been really interesting taking this role and making it my own. Trying to really make it a combination of a lot of the things Julie Andrews did really well and also taking pieces of Mary from the book series and taking it to places that I have reimagined it in my head. The stage version of Mary is a lot colder and a little bit more strict and firm than the movie version. In the movie she’s very sweet and compassionate with the children and in the stage version she is more harsh and this is how it is, so it’s been interesting.”
Isiah Lee will take on the role of Bert and is taking what he has seen in the movie version played by Dick Van Dyke and making it his own role too by studying the Broadway version.
Mary Poppins will run for two weekends starting December 1 with 7 p.m. performances and there is also several matinee performances.
Tickets are $10 for students and children under 18 and $15 for adults with ticket prices going up $5.00 on the night of the performance when purchased at the door.
Purchase them online or at Holland Public Schools Administration building at 320 W 24th Street in Holland.
