HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 33-year-old Holland man is headed to federal prison for two years for identity theft and stealing mail.
Zachary Thomas was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Grand Rapids and ordered to pay over 18-thousand-dollars in restitution.
From December of last year until May, Thomas stole mail from hundreds of people in Holland and other lakeshore communities. Thomas stole checks and forged them to pay himself. He also opened bank accounts to deposit the forged checks and typically withdrew the money at casinos in an attempt to avoid getting caught.
