WRIGHT TWP, MI (WHTC) – Two semis collided Wednesday afternoon in Wright Township of Ottawa County, leaving one man in serious condition.
Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says truck driver Robert Evenbeck has stopped his 2013 Freightliner semi with a trailer on EB I-96 at 32nd Avenue near Marne after being involved in a property damage accident. While he was adjusting his semi, a second semi with a trailer driven by Mark Hilliard rear-ended him at a high rate of speed.
The second crash caused Hilliard’s 2007 Kenworth semi to become lodged under the rear of Evenbeck’s trailer. Hilliard was pinned in and the Wright Tallmadge Fire Department had to extricate him from the semi.
EB I-96 was closed for several hours while crews removed Hilliard’s load of paper rolls from the road.
Hilliard, 48 of Kaleva, Michigan is listed in serious condition at Spectrum Health Butterworth.
Evenbeck, 65 of Ada Ohio was not injured in the crash.
