HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The red flags at Holland State Park today will not be due to hazadous swimming conditions, but to be used in a video on water safety.
The City of Holland Multimedia Specialists along with Holland Aquatic Center and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office Marine and Dive Team will be shooting the video starting at 10 a.m. Monday, November 7. The topic of the video will be in reference to a red flag at the beach.
Actors will be used for the video with a reenactment of a teenager going into the water and emergency procedures starting. The video is being made to be shown in schools to raise awareness of what a red flag means at the beach.
In 2016 there have been 87 drowning in the Great Lakes and Sgt. Cal Keuning of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine and DIve Team says 43 of those drownings have been in Lake Michigan.
Agencies will be on hand to assist with the video and a City of Holland Multimedia Specilist will be doing the filming.
