HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A nationwide recall of frozen strawberries contaminated with hepatitis A has prompted The Ottawa County Department of Public Health (OCDPH) response team to work closely with local food establishments and organizations.
The OCDPH says none of the frozen strawberries were sold directly to consumers and at this time there are no reported cases of hepatitis A in Ottawa County related to this outbreak. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease and illness generally occurs 15-50 days following exposure.
Symptoms include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine and pale stool.
The following Ottawa County locations received and served the potentially contaminated strawberries in the past 14 days:
- 8th Street Grille, 20 W 8th St, Holland (strawberry shakes)
- Biggby Coffee #323, 7589 Cottonwood Dr, Ste E, Jenison (smoothies with strawberries)
- Biggby Coffee #425, 510 W Savidge, Spring Lake (smoothies with strawberries)
- Holiday Inn Grand Haven, 940 W Savidge St, Spring Lake (strawberry vinaigrette)
- Jackie’s Place, 451 W 17th St, Holland, (strawberry sauce – pancakes)
A list of establishments in Michigan that received the product are posted on the Michigan Department of Agriculture and rural Development’s (MDARD) website.
