HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts that is designed to revitalize the role of reading in American culture.
The City of Holland takes part in The Big Read with community-wide programs that encourages reading and participation. This year’s book is called Brother I’m Dying by Edwidge Danicat.
Greg Olgers is Director of News Media Services for Hope College and says the book focuses on the experience of her family coming to the United States from Haiti. The Big Read kicks off with an evening of speakers including the book’s author Danicat on Tuesday, November 1 at the Knickerbocker Theatre in Holland at 7 p.m.
There will be several other events to support Holland’s Big Read at Herrick District Library and Hope College.
