HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – At the Holland City Council Study Session Wednesday evening, council members were updated on the construction of “Washington School Green” a new park that would be built at the corner of Maple Avenue and 11th Street. The Holland Sentinel reports that park would be built adjacent to the school-turned-condominium-development.
The park would feature a nature-based play area surrounded by walking paths and trees. Holland Parks and Recreation Director Andy Kenyon estimates the park would cost around $140,000 with a $15,000 from the Holland-Zeeland Community Foundation and the neighborhood raising $70,00 on it’s own.
Other items tabled until the November 2nd council meeting were changes to an ordinance allowing dogs in parks. Council is recommending pet owners to have their dogs on a leash at all parks except Matt Urban Sports Complex and the Maplewood Youth Complex.
At council’s next meeting discussion will continue on adding Centennial Park to the lists of public parks where alcohol can’t be sold, served, possessed or consumed; and a status report on the constructing of a non-motorized pathway connecting Windmill Island with Holland Township.
