WRIGHT TWP, MI (WHTC) – A two vehicle crash sent a Muskegon man to the hospital.
Sgt. Matt Wilfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, to I-96 and 16th Avenue near Wright Township on what first appeared to be a five-vehicle crash. Upon arrival deputies found that it was a two-vehicle crash.
Investigation shows that Jamie Kanutson, 28, of Muskegon was driving a 2007 Cadillac westbound on I-96 near 16th Avenue when he reached down to retrieve his cellphone. By the time he looked up it was too late and Kanutson collided with a 1996 Toyota driven by Charles Fair, 70, of Muskegon who was also westbound on I-96.
Kanutson was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Kanutson was cited for failing to stop in a clear distance. Both men were wearing their seat belts.
