HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Holland Rescue Mission’s Great Thanksgiving Banquet is a large community event with over 1,500 guests attending the Thanksgiving meal every year.
The Mission says it’s a time for fellowship to families in the area who cannot afford to prepare a meal or who have no one to share the holiday with.
At the end of the evening, each household receives a care box filled with personal and household items. Each box is filled with about 20 different items. A total of 525 boxes are available at the event for each family that attends. The Mission is seeking families, businesses and churches to help fill those boxes.
Volunteer and event coordinator Anna Southwell says often times parents take their children shopping so they can get involved with filling the boxes and decorating them. “These families are low income families who not only receive a Thanksgiving meal, but a box with 20 different items. These are items they cannot afford and that we use everyday.” Household items and hygiene items such as laundry detergent, bar soup, shampoo and more are needed.
The empty boxes and instructions can be picked up at the Gateway Ministry Center located at 661 E. 24th Street in Holland Monday-Friday from 9-3:00 p.m.
Filled boxes can be returned to this same location. Contact Anna Southwell by email for more information.
