HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The 2017 Tulip Time Festival is more than six months away, but the work involving the star of the show is already underway.
City of Holland crews converged on Windmill Island on Tuesday, beginning to plant what will be a total of over 300 thousand tulip bulbs on city property that are expected to bloom in time for Holland’s annual signature event. Parks Supervisor Steve Zwiep said that, for the most part, the bulbs are imported from the Netherlands, explaining in a recent appearance on “WHTC Morning News,” “First year tulips, which is what we get with these bulbs, usually bloom the best and they show the best.”
Zwiep added that, by the next week or two, he hopes that his crews will have the Tulip Lanes all dug up. Volunteers can pitch in this Saturday, with a link to register here.
