ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) – Temporary lights are now up along 48th Avenue near the Grand Valley State University campus in Allendale after four sexual assaults have been reported since August.
Consumers Energy’s Roger Morgenstern says the attacks have pushed them to advance their timeline to install permanent lights in the area.
Although the temporary lights are not being placed on university property, GVSU is paying for them. Officials say it’s because they need to protect students ahead of the utility company having the lights installed within the next few weeks.
GVSU Campus Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office are still seeking tips. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the Sheriff’s office, either at (616) 738-4000 or (800) 249-0911 or contact Silent Observer by phone: (877) 887-4536; texting OCMTIP and the tip to 274637 or submit an online tip.
