GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – A final pre-trial hearing is slated this morning for a former Grand Haven Board of Education member and one-time state House hopeful facing felony charges.
Brandon Hall had attempted to have 10 felony counts of election law forgery thrown out stemming from allegedly forging signatures on nominating petitions four years ago for a Grand Haven District Court candidate, saying that they were misdemeanor offenses instead. The state Supreme Court in June overturned lower court rulings in Hall’s favor, and he was bound over for trial in August before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Ed Post.
Hall first made news in 2008 when, as an 18-year-old Grand Valley State student, he won a seat on the Grand Haven school board. Two years later, he admitted taking 750 dollars from a Grand Haven High fundraiser and resigned as a result. Hall was working on the 2012 campaign of Chris Houghtailing when this incident that led to today’s hearing occurred.
Hall remained active after his Grand Haven school board days, producing his own online blog on West Michigan politics and falling short on election bids in 2014 for the Grand Haven school board and for the GOP nomination this summer in the race to fill the state House seat being vacated by the term-limited Amanda Price (R-Park Twp.).
