HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 31-year-old Holland man was struck while riding his bicycle while the suspect fled the scene on Wednesday evening, September 7 around 11:42 p.m.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kristi Wendt says Timothy Thongkhamtay was riding his bicycle eastbound on Riley Street on the north side of the road crossing US-31 when he was struck. A 22-year-old Holland woman whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, was westbound on Riley turning northbound onto US-31 when she struck Thongkhamtay and knocked him off his bicycle.
The driver stopped and had brief contact with Timothy asking if he was ok. He replied “No” and the suspect fled the scene northbound on US-31. A plate was obtained from a witness who saw the incident occur and the vehicle was later located in the area of US-31 and Stanton a short time after the crash.
The suspect is lodged in the Ottawa County jail on misdemeanor charges. The bicycle was equipped with a head lamp and Thongkhamtay was transported to Holland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
