HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Armed with a tax abatement and money from Lansing, an automation design company has begun construction on an expansion project in Holland.
Koops Inc. officials dug ceremonial shovels in the ground on Wednesday near the firm’s current plant on Productions Court, south of 32nd Street. When completed by next spring, the 40 thousand-foot, 4.9 million-dollar addition will nearly double production capacity and add 60 new jobs to the 114 already on the company’s local payroll.
Founded in 1989, Koops has provided factory automating systems for industries in various fields, and company officials say that a growing global demand has led them to project hitting 200 billion dollars in sales in “the next few years.”
The 12-year property tax abatement from the City of Holland, along with 450 thousand dollars in total grant money from the Michigan Strategic Fund and West Michigan Works, helped Koops in its decision to expand in Holland rather than at its facility in South Carolina.
