PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) – The effort to find the body of a 17-year-old Holland area boy missing and presumed drowned in the waters of Lake Michigan off of Holland State Park has been called off after three full days of unsuccessful searching.
Christopher Mimis, who had recently moved from the Chicagoland area and had been enrolled at Holland High School, had been with three other teens when they were swept off of the pier on Wednesday evening. Two of the youths were able to reach shore safely, while the body of 14-year-old Vincent Green was recovered on Thursday.
Marine unit members from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, augmented by those from Allegan County and the Michigan State Police, have used various methods in attempting to find Mimis, butwere hampered by murky water that have been flowing out of Lake Macatawa and the weather. Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cal Keuning told reporters late on Saturday afternoon that the formal search for Mimis has ended, but that deputies from his department will keep their eyes open in the pier area to see if and when the body will surface.
