SAGINAW, MI (WHTC) – A Holland man and a Spring Lake girl will receive special honors in a Saginaw ceremony on Tuesday night.
Jim Polet and Aubrey Cohoon are among 30 top volunteers, service leaders and philanthropists that will receive a 2016 Governor’s Service Award from Mr. Snyder. The 87-year-old Polet had retired from a tool-and-die job in 1993, but instead of slowing down, he became more active, assisting with Jubliee Ministries, International Aid and Habitat for Humanity, along with handy-man work and mentoring. Meanwhile, the 12-year-old Cohoon has raised nearly 35 thousand dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation over the past four years, along with participating in other fundraising efforts such as the River Bank Run and Car Show for a Cause.
The ceremony at the Temple Theatre continues a 22-year-old tradition of Michigan’s Chief Executive paying tribute to outstanding volunteers across the state.
