HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – For the sixth year Holland is in the running for awards in the America in Bloom Competition.
The competition unites the community, promotes civic pride and involvement, and provides a positive image for the community to aid in it’s economic development and tourism efforts. The city of Holland received national attention as the host community for the America in Bloom National Symposium which was held in September of 2015.
Steve Zweip from the Holland Parks Department says the competition has the department keeping Holland looking it’s best year round.
“For me it helps me be aware of the parks and to try keep them the best that we can. We always have something in the parks we can improve on. It’s not just beautification for flowers and landscaping. It’s also about heritage. We try to keep that alive with the parks department through the city council. A contract was approved at Wednesday’s city council meeting for work on the Van Raalte Farm.” says Zweeb.
Holland is entered in the Circle of Champions Mid-Sized Cities category. Last year Holland received the top award in that very category receiving a 5-out-of-5 bloom rating.
The awards will be given out the first weekend of October.
