HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Escape Ministries in Holland may be closing their doors if they cannot raise enough money to meet their annual budget.
Founder and Executive Director Willie Watt tells WHTC News that they are in need of donations and for people to get involved with the ministry as board members, volunteers and teachers. Escape Ministries started in 2008 to help at-risk kids.
” When I say at-risk kids, I mean real at-risk kids. In a sense these are the kids that get in trouble in school or out in the street.” says Watt. Escape grew by 50% after the first year, but right now they have over 16 kids on a waiting list to get into the different programs they offer.
One of the programs called A.S.A.P. helps suspended and expelled students complete their schoolwork and return to school with the same or often a better grade. Volunteers work with a certified teacher to provide one-on-one support. Other programs include ” Joseph Jobs” where students receive job placement, Health and Fitness program that includes boxing and Holistic Enrichment.
Watt wants the community to know that since 2013, the juvenile crime rate has dropped in Holland by 75% due to their various programs.
They are now relying on the community to help keep their doors open. There will be a prayer meeting Monday, August 15, at 6 p.m. at their location at 202 East 32nd Street in Holland. On Tuesday August 16, from 6-7 p.m. a board meeting will be followed by a community forum.
You can make a donation online or by calling them at 616-396-4481.
