HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – The US-31 construction project on Holland’s North Side has made the proverbial turn.
The rebuilding and widening of the highway from Ransom to 8th Streets began in earnest just after the conclusion of the Tulip Time Festival in May, with southbound traffic being diverted onto the northbound lanes in that stretch. Overnight, M-DOT contractors completed the switch in which northbound traffic will now be on the southbound lanes through mid-October.
In connection with this comes the closure of the ramps from Chicago Drive and Lakewood Boulevard to northbound US-31, along with the exit ramps to both of those roads from northbound US-31. The southbound ramps in both situations are now open again after they were part of the renovation process.
Detours will continue to keep traffic volumes heavy on alternate north-south routes such as Butternut Drive, 120th Avenue and 112th Avenue, along with the east-west Lakewood Boulevard. In addition, traffic heading into downtown Holland from Pine Avenue will still be congested due to ongoing renovation work along 9th Street.
