CHARLESTON, SC (WHTC) – A special US Criminal Intelligence Command agent from Holland is a hero, but not for any cloak-and-dagger work on his part.
John Zoerhof, assigned to the Marine Corps Detachment at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, was in Charleston, South Carolina earlier this week, teaching a Guardian Shield course to US Army Reserve special agent soldiers, when he and a co-worker spotted a woman struggling to keep a man from falling over while they were leaving a local department store.
According to a story posted by the Defense Video Imagery Distribution System, Zoerhof and Martin Schultz immediately turned around and went to the aid of the man. Zoerhof performed CPR and revived the victim, who had apparently had a heroin overdose. Arriving paramedics completed the recovery efforts and transported the unnamed victim to a local hospital.
Zoerhof, who was a CPR instructor in the past, admitted that he had never actually performed the life-saving efforts on anyone but mannequins before this incident, and in remarks to the DVIDS, gave credit to Jesus Christ for putting him at the right place at the right time.
