HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Over 20 middle school students from Holland area schools will graduate Holland’s Department of Public Safety’s Junior Police Academy today Thursday, August 4.
For four weeks Monday through Thursday, the students received classroom instruction on the Court and Probation system, Holland Fire Department, the 911 system, Traffic Enforcement, Crime Scene Investigation and even designated “fun days” where they went on field trips.
Lindsay Kruithof, 12 of Holland who graduates today from the academy volunteered at their booth on Monday’s National Night Out at Kollen Park. “You learn a lot about being a police officer in the future if you ever wanted that. it was a lot of fun to do and I would definitely do it again.” Kruithof said.
Cody Burklow, 12 of Holland can hardly wait for graduation and says he learned a lot in the academy. When asked if he would like to be a police officer, he responded, “Kinda.”
Every summer HDPS hosts the free Junior Police Academy. A graduation ceremony takes place today for students and parents.
