HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – This Tuesday August 2, voters in Ottawa County will vote to renew and restore the Ottawa County Parks and Open Space millage.
If approved, the millage will provide funding for improving, operating, maintaining and acquiring parks and open spaces in Ottawa County from 2018 through 2027. Jessica VanGinhoven of Ottawa County Parks tells WHTC News the average home owner in Ottawa County currently contributes about $25 annually to the Parks millage. The restoration would increase this annual payment to $26, an increase of $1 per year.
VanGinhoven says after they get closer to their goal acreage, the shift will change to maintenance and renovations and that is keeping the park system looking fantastic. “We have a lot of boardwalks, we have a lot of stairs, we have a lot of paths and facilities. We want to make sure that those are top notch. As you know a roof or stairs doesn’t last forever and that’s what we’re doing for the next ten years.”
Millage projects have leveraged over $20 million in projects since 1996 VanGinhoven says.
