FERRYSBURG, MI (WHTC) – A new accessible beach wheel chair called a Mobi chair is now available for the public to use free-of-charge at North Beach in Ferrysburg.
The chair was donated by the Friends of Ottawa County Parks and it’s designed to navigate the sand and can also float in the water.
According to a press release from Ottawa County Parks, North Beach is currently the most accessible beach park in the county park system because visitors can reach the beach without climbing stairs. Since 1998, every summer a temporary decking surface is laid down to create a path for users who are in a wheelchair or have difficulity walking in the sand, This summer a temporary path was extended by 40 feet so users can travel closer to Lake Michigan.
The Mobi Chair is available during park hours. Anyone interested should speak to the Park Attendant on duty.
