GENEVA TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 43-year-old Holland area man ended the weekend in the Van Buren County Jail following a Sunday evening police chase and subsequent arrest.
According to a release from Sheriff Dale Gribler, Eric Robert Overway was driving a van on County Road 388 near 62nd Street, east of South Haven, when a deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over for a registration violation. The van sped off northbound on 62nd Street and pulled into a private drive. Overway then jumped out and attempted to flee on foot through a wooded area, but the deputy was able to catch up and apprehended Overway about a quarter of a mile away without further incident. A small amount of marijuana was seized.
The suspect had been wanted on a warrant for an unrelated marijuana possession. Overway was arrested on that count, as well as on charges stemming from this incident, and awaits arraignment in South Haven District Court on a thousand dollars bond. The case remains under investigation.
