NICE, France (WHTC) – Two Grand Valley State University professors and 18 students currently studying abroad in France are safe after last night’s trucker attack on a crowd of Bastille Day revelers that killed over 80 people.
Outgoing GVSU Provost Gayle Davis told the school’s Board of Trustees during this morning’s meeting that all members of the Lakers’ contingent have been spoken to directly since the incident and are safely with their host families in France. Carol Wilson, director of the French Language and Culture Program at the Allendale-based school, told WOOD-TV that she and a group of her students were dining a short distance away from where the incident occurred in Nice.
The group is scheduled to be in the area through July 24th before going to Paris for the final week of the program’s excursion in France. There was no word from GVSU officials as to whether this incident would cut short this trip.
