HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland State Park will soon receive a formal playground.
Efforts are through a new crowdfunding campaign, The Michigan-Economic Development Corporation, Lakeshore Advantage, and Carter’s Kids. The campaign will be offered through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patranicity.
Jennifer Owens, President of Lakeshore Advantage tells WHTC news that Holland State Park is one of the best assets that our community has with over two million visitors yearly. “For those of us who have kids or grandparents, the one big thing that is missing is a playground. There is not a play for kids to play together and run and jump. This crowdfunding campaign will bring the one lack to the park” she says.
Owens says it’s an interesting story how this campaign was launched. Sally Stark a former school teacher who was always taking her kids to the park felt it was missing one thing, a playground. She started going door-to door to get people to commit and then one day knocked on the door of Lakeshore Advantage. From there they joined forces.
If the campaign reaches it’s crowdfunding goal of $17,000 by August 8, the Park Playground Project will win a matching grant with funds made possible by MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places program.
Owens say the playground could be completed within a week after the campaign with TV personality Carter Oosterhouse’s non-profit charity Carter’s Kids. Oosterhouse is a native to Michigander and constructed the playground at Windmill Island.
You can donate through the website and also drop off your donation by check at any Lake Michigan Credit Union branch. The check’s must be made to Carter’s Kids and are tax deductible.
