UNDATED (WHTC) – Here’s a look at what’s happening on Sunday and for the start of the upcoming work week in and around the Holland area.
While southbound US-31 traffic continues to be shifted to the northbound lanes between Ransom and 8th Streets in Holland Township for the next month or so, more cross-street action is planned this week. On Monday, Quincy and James streets will be blocked off at US-31 in a similar way to that of Felch and Riley streets the past couple of weeks. These new closures should last a week.
The 9th Street reconstruction project continues to progress from Phase A to Phase B. Traffic between River and Lincoln avenues has been restored, with work now focusing between Pine and River avenues. Motorists heading downtown from Holland’s North Side will be diverted from Pine to 4th Street and Central Avenue; watch for additional stop signs along the route. While passenger vehicles can still drive south on Pine Avenue through 9th Street, trucks are being directed to an alternate route. This work should continue for the next six weeks or so.
The Aquatic Invasive Species Landing Blitz concludes on Sunday from 12 PM to 4 PM at Riverside Park, off of the Grand River between Allendale and Grand Haven. Staffers from the Ottawa County Parks Department will be on hand to give tips for boaters on how to prevent the inadvertant introduction of aquatic invasive species into local rivers and lakes, with special features and events planned. This is the third annual statewide initiative and the first conducted by Ottawa County.
There is a Prarie Wildflower Walk slated from 3-4 PM at Hemlock Crossing off of West Olive Road in West Olive on Sunday, with free admission.
The Whitecaps continue a four-game series against the Fort Wayne Tincaps with games at Fifth Third Ballpark on Sunday afternoon and on Monday evening. For ticket information, go here. You can hear Monday night’s game with Dan Hasty and Steve Lloyd-Jones at 6:50 PM on 1450 WHTC.
