HOLLAND (WHTC) — Holland resident Richard Henley, 63, was rushed to Spectrum Health Butterworth Wednesday evening (June 29, 2016) after the ultralight plane he was piloting crashed after landing.
He was in serious condition as of Wednesday night, said Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jay Douglas. . The plane’s owner and only other occupant, Spring Lake resident Leland Klink, 71, was treated and released at the scene.
Douglas said Henley has just landed the Evolution Revo light sport edition ultralight aircraft at the Park Township Airport when the plane veered off the runway and into the grass. The Revo then overturned, Douglas said. AMR Ambulance and Sheriff’s paramedics gave Henley first aid at the scene.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. Wednesday and emergency responders, including Sheriff’s deputies, Park Township Fire Rescue, AMR Ambulance and AeroMed were summoned to the airport, at 1269 Ottawa Beach Rd., at the intersection of 152nd Avenue in Park Township.
The crash remains under investigation, Douglas said, adding that police will work with officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
